MUST HAVE Plum cake

Cakes are an important part of Christmas and New Year celebrations. The festival wouldn’t be complete without sharing delicious cakes with family members, relatives, neighbours and friends.

To cater to an increasing demand for the cakes, bakeries in the City have come out with a special menu and have stocked up fully to serve the customers with a wide range.

Sudheendra of Cake of the Day, a shop located in Banashankari 3rd Stage, informs that the demand for plum cakes is the most on Christmas eve.

“Plum cake holds a traditional significance for Christians and it is a ‘must have’. Therefore, we prepare plum cakes in different sizes, so that customers can buy according to their requirement.”

In order to avoid last minute rush, they have started taking orders for Christmas and New Year.

“We will open a separate counter on the eve of Christmas and New Year,” he adds. He reveals that there are customers from other religion also who buy plum cakes.

The outlets of Sweet Chariot Cafe, are also doing a brisk business. They are getting  orders through telephone calls and Internet bookings. “Along with plum cakes, pastries in different flavours like black forest, pineapple and chocolate will also be in great demand as the festival nears,” says Jayashri from Sweet Chariot Cafe.

Raghavendra Rao, the owner of Cakes and Slices, in N R Colony too agrees that Christmas and New Year are the occasions when many customers visit his shop.

“Customers keep on increasing every year. For the occasion, we are selling plum cakes, fruit cakes, sponge cakes and pastries in ten different flavours,” he informs.

Jyothi Bakery on Mariyappanapalya Main Road is quite affected by the ongoing Metro work. “Every year, we used to get a number of orders but due to Metro work, people find it difficult to reach the shop. Yet regular customers have started placing their orders. We prepare cakes in different shapes like heart, guitar and also cartoon characters,” says Narasimha Murthy, the owner.

Even people are happy with the wide variety of cakes available in the market, which  definitely accentuates their festive spirit.

“Last year, I tried baking a cake but it didn’t turn out  well. So, this year I will be placing the order at a nearby cake shop,” laughs Laveena, a professional.
