Chidi's brace spurs Bagan to victory

Mohun Bagan started the game in blazing fashion awith Ishfaq Ahmed (8th) and Edeh Chidi (12th, 18th) scoring within the first twenty minutes to virtually put the game to bed. Salgaocars, who  came back strongly in the second half, failed to convert the chances that came their way and could manage only a solitary goal in the 88th minute courtesy Ryuji Sueoka.

In Gurgaon, a last minute strike by Nigerian Ezeh Henry saw Mumbai FC escape with a 1-1 draw against AIFF XI.

AIFF XI took the lead in the eighth minute through Malswamfela and Henry equalised as he headed in from a fine corner from Nicholas Rodrigues in injury time at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium.

With the draw, AIFF jumped two places to the ninth position with 11 points while Mumbai FC jumped one place to the fifth spot with 14 points.Meanwhile, JCT FC blanked Air India 2-0 at the Guru Nanak Stadium.

After both teams wasted a couple of scoring chances, JCT took the lead in the second half when Nurain Kareem found the target in the 61st minute after intercepting the ball from midfielder Randeep Singh.The home side increased their lead, three minutes later after Ibrahim scored in off a rebound.

JCT have now secured 11 points from nine matches to improve their position to eighth whereas the visitors are still struggling and are placed at the bottom with five points.
