The decision was taken at a meeting held under the presidentship of former Prime Minister and MP H D Deve Gowda. Both the MPs H D Deve Gowda and D V Sadananda Gowda assured the meeting to bring the matter to the notice of the Union government in the budget session.

At present every beneficiary is given Rs 35,000 to construct a house. The amount is meagre and as a result, the district has not succeded in the implementation of housing schemes, said Zilla Panchayat CEO M R Ramanna. An official informed that the Centre has raised objection to the inclusion of Basava Housing Scheme with that of Indira Housing scheme by the State government.

MP Sadananda Gowda said the Centre pays Rs 35,000 for each beneficiary to construct a house. Realising that the beneficiaries could not construct house with meagre amount, the State government has decided to give additional Rs 30,000 by combining Basava Housing Scheme with that of Indira Housing scheme and naming it as Indira Basavagriha Scheme.

Sringeri MLA D N Jeevarj said that the 19 works under PMGSY are yet to get approval from the government. Both the MPs should pressurise the government and get it approved.

MLA C T Ravi expressed displeasure over the decline in the progress achieved under MGNREGS in Chikmagalur taluk. The expected work is not being undertaken in GPs. The CEO said that Rs 100 wage per day is responsible for the decline in the success rate. He warned that action will be initiated against the PDOs and Secretary for not achieving progress under MGNREGS.
