<p>C R Shankar of Janata Dal (Secular) was elected unanimously as President of City Municipal of Council of Hassan on Thursday.<br /><br /> The election was necessitated following the death of H C Rangaswamy recently.<br />When the election process began, councillors C R Shankar and two others, H L Vijaykumar and H K Yogendrakumar filed their nominations for the post. <br /><br />The election was conducted by returning officer Nagaraj, who is also Assistant Commissioner of Hassan.<br /><br />Following orders from the party high command, Vijaykumar and H K Yogendrakumar withdrew their nominations. This paved way for the unanimous election of Shankar.<br /><br />The returning officer Nagaraj declared Shankar as the new CMC chief. In the 35-member house, two seats are vacant following death of members. But, only 30 members attended today’s special meeting.<br /><br />MLA H S Prakash was present. Soon after the election, the party workers celebrated the victory by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.CMC Commissioner Shivananjegowda and others felicitated the newly-elected president.</p>
