JOIN USBasavaraj Appaji had filed a petition seeking courses in geriatrics and facilities for geriatrics in the hospitals. The government submitted that Kolar, Tumkur, Chikmagalur, Dharwad, Bijapur and other districts except Madikeri, were already catering to special needs of geriatrics. The Madikeri college hospital ward is expected to open on March 31.
The government also submitted that each of these colleges has spent Rs six lakh for procurement of equipment, renovation, supply of drugs, ramps, toilets and other facilities.
Counsel for the State government Basavaraj Kareddy made an oral submission that the government had moved the Medical Council of India for permission to start courses. If the permission was accorded, the courses would begin in 2012.
