Sources in the department said more than 1,000 trucks were checked in Hubli, Gulbarga and Hospet and Rs 2.5 crore was levied upon as penalty under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Expired certificates
Trucks checked included those carrying granite, sugar, sand and construction materials. Offenses also included expired FC (Fitness Certificate), non-payment of taxes etc. The department utilised the services of newly inducted inspectors for the purpose, according to sources. The drive will also be conducted in other parts of Karnataka from Monday onwards.
