Anita Reddy is Person of the Year

At a glittering awards ceremony on Wednesday, Reddy was presented with the award by Lokayukta Santosh Hegde and Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrashekar.

Reddy, who founded the Association for Voluntary Action and Services, was recognised for her work in the area of housing, education, and improving the livelihood of the poor and those living in slums. The awardees have been chosen by a jury chaired by Rajeev Chandrashekar, and includes Santosh Hegde, Prof Siddalingaiah, Dr A Ravindra, Anil Kumble, and Ramesh Aravind.

The night also saw awards presented in the private and public categories. BBMP Commissioner S Siddaiah bagged the award under the public individual category, while Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bagged the award under the public institution category. Jayanagar MLA B N Vijaykumar was presented with an award in the newly introduced elected representatives category.

Radha S Murthy, founder of Nightingale Trust and T Raja, popularly known as Auto Raja, were presented with awards under the private individual category. Children's Movement for Civic Action (CMCA) bagged an award for their contribution in the private institution category, while Vasudev Adiga of Adigas chain of restaurants bagged the award under the private entrepreneur category. The best sports-person award has been bagged by Vijay Rao Shinde and Anupama Puchimanda.
