Hoardings: BBMP yet to act

Last Updated 13 July 2009, 19:46 IST

Keeping in mind the Chief Minister’s statement that hoardings are destroying the beauty of the city, the BBMP had last month proceeded with a bye-law that prohibits display of advertisements along the busiest roads in the City. But even as the dates on the renewal of licence for hoardings have expired, the advertisements are still being displayed.
According to Palike sources, it is believed that the delay in implementing the bye-law has been due to lack of co-ordination between the Joint Commissioners of eight zones. As per the division of work, the bringing down of hoardings fall into the hands of the individual Joint Commissioners for approval.

Vitamin A drive

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will undertake a drive to give Vitamin A mixture to children between 18 months and five years of age. The campaign will be held across the City from July 15 to 31.

An estimated three lakh children are expected to benefit from this initiative.

The campaign will be carried out by personnel at government hospitals, health centres, anganwadis and select private hospitals in the City. For more details on this drive, contact the BBMP control room on 22660000.
