The general category, termed as ‘E’ category, represents the commoner and not children belonging to Army, Defence or Air Force personnel. However, the school maintains that the hike is not an abnormal one and it has been effected after discussion with parents.

A letter in this connection, addressed to the school principal, bearing signatures of parents registering their protest appeals for withholding the abnormal fee revision. Copies of the letter have also been sent to the President, PM, Karnataka governor, Minister for Law and Justice and the media among others.

Under the revised fee structure for this year, the cost for a child under the ‘E’ category is Rs 22,000 for the year 2009-2010, compared to the Rs 10,000 collected the previous year.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the school, PRO Wing commander Rajan said that talks were held with the parents a month ago by the management and they agreed to the proposed hike. The same rule is applicable to all Air Force schools in the country and not just Bangalore, he said.

Another official said that the decision was taken by the Air force headquarters at New Delhi and the grievance of the parents was conveyed to them.
