Comprehensive book on Abbakka Rani

As a preparatory step, the Samiti has decided to organise ‘Abbakka Sankathana,’ a seminar on Abbakka Rani at the Raveendra Kala Bhavana here on March 12 and 13.

Addressing a press conference, Mangalore MLA U T Khader, who is the honourary president of the Samiti, said that sessions in the seminar will throw light on the cultural, social, political and other aspects of the Rani Abbakka’s regime. The papers presented by experts on Rani Abbakka will be compiled to bring out a comprehensive history, he said adding that Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Dr Shivashankara Murthy will inaugurate the seminar on March 12 at 10 am while noted historian Dr M Mukunda Prabhu will preside.  

Sessions

The first session of the seminar will begin at 11.30 am where experts Dr Udaya Barkur, Dr Mohana Krishna Rai, Dr Meenakshi and Prof Thukarama Poojari will deliver talks where Dr Pundikai Ganapayya Bhat will be the moderator, Khader said.

The second session will begin at 2.30 pm on same day where experts Dr Y Umanatha Shenoy, Dr Lokesha, Dr K Kamalaksha and Dr Peter Wilson Prabhakar would speak on the subject. Writer Dr Sabiha Bhoomigowda will moderate the session. On March 13, the session will begin at 10 am where experts Nanda Kumaraswamy, Dr Shaila U, Dr N Shyama Bhat and Dr Keladi Venkatesh will deliver talks where Dr Denis Fernandes will be the co-ordinator, Khader said.

An interaction programme will be held at 2 pm on same day which will be presided over by Mangalore University Registrar Dr Chinnappa Gowda. Experts Dr K G Vasantha Madhava, Dr B Shivarama Shetty, Dr Vamana Nandavara and Dr Niketana will speak on the topic while Bhaskara Rai Kukkuvalli will moderate the session, Khader informed.

Valedictory

CSI Bishop Rev J S Sadananda will preside over the valedictory ceremony which will commence at 3.30 pm. Academy of General Education (Manipal) Administrative Officer Dr H Shantharam and noted writer Dr Sara Aboobakker will be the guests, he added.

Hampi Kannada University retired Professor A V Navada said that the Samiti also has plans to publish all available manuscripts of literary works on Rani Abbakka in Kannada and Tulu. The copyright of the literary works including dramas, novels and short stories, will be purchased from the authors or from their legal heirs. Later, books will be published in several volumes, he added.
