Q I suffer from severe dandruff. Is there an economical remedy?

Dandruff can occur if the scalp is frequently exposed to extreme temperatures.  People with dandruff may also experience irritation and redness of the scalp. Excessive flaking may be caused by an underlying illness or condition, such as psoriasis, fungal infection, seborrheic dermatitis, etc.

The best remedy is to wash hair regularly with a shampoo containing the compound selenium or coal tar extract. Besides using anti-dandruff creams, lotions, oils and shampoos, there are a few simple remedies to fight dandruff  like hot oil therapy.

Massage warm oil into the scalp before going  to bed. The next morning, massage the scalp with lemon juice mixed with vinegar (1:2 ratio). While shampooing, gently massage scalp with fingertips to help loosen scales and flakes. Do not scratch the scalp. Always lather twice with an anti-dandruff shampoo. A little sun exposure is good to get rid of dandruff.

Q I am a 17-year-old boy and I am 5 ft 4 inches tall. I want to attain a height of  5 ft 9 inches, for which I wake up early, exercise and practise yoga. However, this has not helped improve my height. Please help.

A Height attainment can get tricky, especially when it comes to boys as they experience growth spurts at a later stage. Since you are only 17 years old, I reckon you still have another three-four years to get there. So, don’t lose hope.

Keep up the physical activity. Add sports to your regime (swimming, basketball, football, tennis) and eat healthy (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, sprouts, lentils, beans, eggs, lean meats, nuts and seeds).
