The second year PU exams will begin from March 17, followed by SSLC exams from April 1.

Along with the students the parents too are under stress as they have to literally drag their wards from the television sets with the world cup being aired live, distracting attention.

The temperature has risen alarmingly in the past few days, putting the public, especially the senior citizens into a lot of hardship. They are trying to find refuge under fans, but unfortunately the irregular load shedding, that is rampant, has come as a curse.

The temperature level, which is being experienced in the first week of March, is as that of recorded during the months of April-May. Usually the March month’s records around 30 to 32 degree Celsius and this year, it has already crossed 34.2 to 34.6 degree Celsius. The senior citizens are already fearing how to bear the heat especially during April and May-the peak of summer season. The environmentalists say that the dwindling forests and rising vehicular population in Hassan is also one of the reasons for the rise in temperature. The residents of Sakleshpur are already staging protests complaining of depleting green cover in the Western Ghats. The situation is sure to worsens in future, they predict.

It is becoming a common scene to see people gathering in front of the juice shops that have mushroomed to make quick business during the season. While those living in city are trying to find out ways to beat the heat, the rural counterparts are seen struggling to get drinking water.

The drinking water projects have not progressed and though the Zilla Panchayat members have been stressing all through the year to sink bore wells, the results are zero. The Housing Board colony, Salagame Road, Hemavathy Nagar and other layouts in the centre of city are facing severe drinking water crisis.
