Deadlines, working weekends and late night meetings are things that one has to come to terms with.

Metrolife asked some young professionals what they miss the most about their student days and the changes that have come into their life.

“In college, you are always surrounded by friends even when you are writing your exams or are having sleepless nights with projects,” says Kirti Sinha, a sales professional.
“But when you are working, you can’t select people who you hang out with,” she adds. Siddarth Shanbag, a software engineering agrees.

“The college fun and ‘masti’ is what I miss the most at my workplace. And even if you have a nice group of people at work, you have to maintain some decorum because the corporate environment is not always chilled out,” he says.

Lack of time is another aspect which affects most new comers at the job.
“There is no time at all. Sundays go in homely chores and the only time I really get to spend with my friends is the lunchtime. Most of my college friends  have joined the same place, so that is a relief,” says Sakshi Dubey, who started working in an IT company last year.

“Even something as casual as meeting friends needs time management because you have to co-ordinate with them on a regular basis, which is hard when everyone is so busy,” says Manish V, a marketing executive.

A few others miss the protected environment. “In college, there are professors who are more than willing to guide you. But at office, your manager will not go out of his way to explain things to you,” says Sakshi. But even the harsh working environment has its upside.  “You get to learn a lot more about the market in your job which is something you are unaware of in college,” says Siddarth.

“The entire experience makes you independent and mature,” says Divya, who works as a financial consultant.

And it’s not all work and no play for these young minds. “I have made some good friends at my work place. And even with a lot of work, at the end of the day, you are the boss of your life, which is a great feeling,” says Manish.
