'Identify place to organise Gadi Utsav'

Speaking at a review meet on border issues and development works here on Tuesday, he said the Gadi utsav aims at exhibiting the culture of the State and also on discussing the problems being faced by the people on the border.  The Authority has already released a sum of Rs 4 lakh towards Gadi Utsav which will be held under the aegis of Kannada and Culture department. The two-day Gadi utsav will have programmes like seminars, poets meet and so on.  The Chairman informed that the Authority will provide funds for the construction of library in primary and high schools situated on the border, construction of housing facility for the teachers, Samskrithika bhavana in border areas, open air theatre in school premises and kreeda bhavan. 

DDPI Chame Gowda informed the meeting that there is a need for teachers’ quarters for the teachers of primary and high school situated on the border at Talapady. The school also requires road connectivity and a library.

Bellada said “without imparting quality education, no one will enroll in the government schools. There are ample opportunities for tourism in the district. The tourism should be promoted to help the people of the region. The students should be taken to tour of the district.”

The official from Women and Child Welfare said that 1,223 anganwadi centres are situated on the border. Of which 228 angawadi centres require buildings. The 17 sites identified for the anganwadi are outside the border.

Officials remain absent

Though district-level officials were supposed to take part in the meeting, only few officials had attended the meeting. Hence, the Chairman could not get proper answers for the questions.
