Abiodun Adeyeme (32), a resident of Okena City in Nigeria and Himakshi Hazarika (27) of Gurgaon, Haryana were arrested from their rented house on Third ’E’ cross, HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar.

According to police, Himakshi, married to Sachin Kumar Madan, was employed at a call centre in New Delhi. She eloped with Abiodun to Bangalore a few months ago.

Abiodun came to India in March 2007 and has been staying since without renewing his passport.

Himakshi changed her name as Kim Gupta Salai from Madurai, Tamil Nadu and obtained a passport by furnishing false documents.

Modus operandi

The two would send bulk SMSes to people, saying that they had won several thousand dollars in a lottery, and ask them to deposit some money with them to claim the amount. They opened an account with ICICI bank in Delhi in the name of Manoj Kumar of Rohini Association and collected huge sums, police said.

The Delhi police arrested them and sent them to prison. Abiodun managed to obtain bail and came to Bangalore after hatching a conspiracy with Samson and Mike to expand their racket network to the City.

Acting on a tip-off, the police swooped on nine persons near Banappa Park when they were trying to circulate counterfeit notes.
