Pomp, gaiety marks temple fair

Thousands of devotees took part in the annual festival by walking on the burning charcoal to fulfil their vows.

Kodimutt’s Honnappa Shastri performed all the rituals at the annual festival.

Before the sun rise, the God was offered with Maharudrabhisheka on Tuesday. Later, the statues were given ‘Gangasnana’ and ‘Gangapooja’ at river Cauvery.

N Mahadevappa and team performed Veeragase on the occasion. The procession of tamed elephants Vikram, Seetharam, Kaveri of Dubare elephant at the  annual Nanjundeshwara festival was an added attraction. The procession included tribals dancing to the tunes.

The temple has a history of over 400 years. It was kings in Kodagu who started this historic Nanjundeshwara festival.
