'State govt to revive Coorg oranges'

Ranjan speaking with the reporters on Wednesday said that there is a need save Coorg oranges and hence the Minister has directed the officials concerned to do all that is needed for the revival of variety.

“The saplings will be grown through horticulture department and will be distributed to the farmers. The Government is also contemplating to provide support price for orange cultivation,” he said adding that since the saplings and the yield were destroyed by various diseases, this time care will be taken to avoid possible diseases that can threaten the crops.

He said that a meeting with Assembly Speaker, District-in-charge Minister, ZP President and members will be held in the district soon and necessary action for revival of the crop will be taken up immediately. Coorg Orange Society will be formed, if need arises.
Ranjan said that discussion was also held with regard to development of Harangi reservoir.

“There are plans to develop Harangi on Vrindavan model. The Minister has promised to provide Rs 2 crore for the same,” Ranjan said.
