Shane Warne needs no introduction at all. The spinner, known as much for his on-field antics as for his off-field, has had his fair share of media attention. He spoke to Metrolife about his connection with India, his style sense and his love for cricket.

Casually dressed, Shane is quite a fashionista himself. “I have always taken pride in my appearance and how I look,” he says. “But as I have spent most of my youth in the 80s, I don’t suppose my fashion choices at that time would be a good idea now. Especially the hair style,” he adds laughing.

His foray into merchandising has been part of this long drawn interest. “I get hands on experience in designing and be creative, which is a fun thing to do,” he says. Shane also speaks about his young son’s involvement in the work. “This is something which I can do with Jackson, my son. He has a lot of ideas and now my daughters want me to come up with a girl’s clothing line too,” he says.

He informs that a part of his inspiration is from India. “India is a country of colours. The greens, purples, and blues have all come  from my time spent in the country,” he says.

Mention India and Shane has only good things to say. “I have been coming to India for about 20 years now. It is a cricket loving nation and the people here have been very nice to me, whether I am playing for Australia or for the Rajasthan Royals,” he says. With so much going on in his life, how does he keep his energy levels going, especially on the field? “Cricket has always been a hobby or a passion for me. It has never been a job,” he says.

And he seems to like his role as an experienced cricketer in the IPL. “I want to share my knowledge with people especially now during the IPL. I want to pass on what I have learnt to the young cricketers of India,” he says. “The beauty of IPL is that different cultures are put together and are gelled into one team. I really enjoy that part,” he adds.
The former Aussie cricketer led the Rajasthan Royals to victory in the first season of Indian Premier League and in spite of the recent bad luck, aims at doing that again. “I am hoping that we would be back in form soon,” he says signing off.
