A senior police officer Sanjiv Bhatt has filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court implicating Narendra Modi in the 2002 riots in the wake of the Godhra train burning. Bhatt said in his affidavit that Modi had said that Hindus should be allowed to vent their "anger" after the deaths of 59 kar sevaks in the Sabarmati Express train burning Feb 27, 2002. He also expressed his doubts on the neutrality of the SIT probing the violence that followed which claimed over 1,000 lives.
"You find these things planted in the media or an affidavit leaked in the media. I would appeal to the media that you and I cannot be the judge of all things. There is a judicial mechanism looking into it. Let us leave it to the judicial mechanism only," said the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
