R L Jalappa Institute of Technology recently organised an inter-collegiate fest called ‘Xibit 2011’. The national level fest saw the participation of 46 different engineering colleges from across the country. The fest, which was a technical symposium, had events ranging from idea presentation to a scientific exhibition all revolving around the theme of technology and its practical applications.

The first day had events like technical paper presentation and project presentation. The event Pragna was a technical paper presentation where the participants had to choose one of the topics given to them and present it using Powerpoint. Another event Prayogya gave the students a chance to present a project. The students came up with different projects in the fields of computer science, electronics and mechanical engineering.

The highlight of this event was that all the projects were an interpretation of the students with one being more innovative than the other. Some of the projects included a smart antenna system for broadband wireless connection, landmine detection using impulse GPR, image hunter etc.

The preliminary rounds of mind game too were held on the same day. Called ‘Tech-Avadhana’, the participants were put to the grind in this event which was the technical version of the popular ‘Stress Interview.’

The panel of judges consisted of eight people from the various streams of physics, chemistry and others and the participants had to field questions fired by all of them.  With mind-boggling questions and puzzles, the students were tested not only on the basis of their analytical skills but also their emotional quotient.  The students were rated on how effectively they were able to stay calm and not buckle under pressure.

The artistic skills of the students was brought to the fore in the event Prachura which was a poster presentation competition.

One could see different patterns, diagrams and colours used in most of the posters. ‘Eureka’, as the name suggests, made the students put on their thinking caps and come up with an idea or a thought which was not only innovative but also feasible in its practicality.

The different ideas the participants came up with included solar panel usage, voting system through mobile phone technology and space-based solar power.  The knowledge of the participants was tested in a technical quiz competition called ‘Prashna’, which had a preliminary and final round. ‘Robex’, a robotic exhibition competition, was also conducted where the students had to display models of the robots made by them. Apart from this, on-the-spot games were conducted.

A technical dumb charades was also organised and participants had to enact and guess simple topics like computer, printer, scanner etc.

Gaming freaks tried their hand at Counterstrike and Need For Speed — Most Wanted.
The two day fest culminated with a cultural performance by the students of R L Jalappa and winners in each category were awarded.
