Last Updated 27 April 2011, 16:45 IST

Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, he said that even though funds have been released to Chamarajnagar District, a few schemes come under the Mysore District. Centre has released ` 30.72 crore for road development. Under this, Nanjangud-Hullahalli Road has been provided ` 15 crore, while Tagaduru route will be given `  12 crore, he added.

National highways

The Central Government has released sufficient funds for National Highway 212 and 209. The potholes on these roads have been filled and the roads are in good condition.
He mentioned that the Mysore-T Narsipur Road is at present five metre wide, and will be broadened to nine metres. Tenders will be called within a month, he added.

Dhruvanarayan said that work on the T Narsipur Kabini bridge is under progress and will be completed within the end of this year.

CDP sought

The MP informed media that a proposal demanding ` 100 crore for the improvement of tourism in Chamarajnagar District has been sought.

The Centre has sought a detailed execution plan for approval of funds, he added.
He said that places such as Hogenakkal, Gaganachukki and Bharachukki would be included under the plan. Also the Archaelogical Survey of India has assured of including Somanathapura and Talkad under the World Heritage list.

Under the Central Forest Act, title deeds have been released to 1,516 persons in the district. While 2,538 acre has been distributed in Chamarajnagar, 817 have received title deeds for 137 acres in Mysore District.

Survey

A railway feasibility survey to connect Chamarajnagar to Bangalore, via Kanakapura and Malavalli, has been completed. There is a possibility that funds could be allotted in the supplementary budget to commence work.

Stipend to SC/ST students, who are studying in classes upto SSLC, has been raised from ` 650 to `  1,300, he added.

Congress leader H A Venkatesh, Zilla Panchayat former President Dharmendra, Basavaraju and Rangaswamy were present.

Condemned

MP R Dhruvanarayan condemned the lathi charge undertaken by police against farmers, who were demanding cotton seeds. A meeting should have been held a month ago to ensure that the cotton seeds are distributed. A price should also have been fixed, he added.
Even though rains were lashing the district, the shortage of seeds forced the farmers to take out a protest, he added.
He said that it wasn’t correct for the police to beat the farmers.
