“We will contest if the BJP proposes Murli Manohar Joshi’s name as head of new PAC,” Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters here.

Asked about the party’s future course of action after Joshi submits the report to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Singhvi said: “First the speaker has to decide whether its a report or not. The speaker has to take a decision.”

Singhvi further attacked the veteran BJP leader and said Joshi has “obliterated” the difference between the PAC and BJP committee and the draft report on the 2G spectrum scam has been an attempt “to politicise the issue”.

Notably, on Thursday in an unprecedented sequence of events, 11 members of the Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party in 21-member PAC rejected Joshi’s interim report on the 2G spectrum allocation controversy that had pulled up Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the scandal. The protesting members elected Congress MP Saifuddin Ahmad Soz as chairman.

Earlier in the day, Joshi told the media  that the act of the Congress was unconstitutional.
However, the Congress attacked Joshi and said he has failed to give answers to several vital questions raised in the entire controversy such as how the report was leaked to the media, why Joshi walked out without test of his support and why former telecom minister A Raja, accused in the 2G scam, was not summoned before the committee.

Taking a dig at Joshi, Congress spokesperson Singhvi said it seems the senior BJP leader was “trying to replace” L K Advani as next “PM-in-waiting”.
