Basavaraj (25), employed with a private travel agency in BTM Layout, hanged himself from a tree in Mahadevapura on Monday afternoon allegedly due to his parents’ refusal to allow him  to marry a girl whom he loved.

A native of Bijapur, Basavaraj was in love with a girl in his hometown, police said.

He reportedly called up his parents on Sunday morning and told them he had decided to end his life as they were not permitting him to marry the girl of his choice.

He parked the tempo van in a desolate area near Graphite India Road in Mahadevapura and hanged from a tree branch, added the police.

In another incident, Jalajakshi (30), a homemaker hanged herself when she was alone at her house in Byrasandra.

She was married to Ravikumar, a grocer. The couple had two children. The reason for the extreme step is yet to be ascertained, police said.
