B'lore rural ZP approves Rs 239-crore budget

While Rs 70.7 crore would go for planned expenditure, Rs 168.72 crore would be utilised under the non-plan expenditure account. The budget includes a total grant of Rs 47.42 crore from the State government and Rs 23.28 crore from the Centre.

The meeting chaired by zilla panchayat president Bhagyamma approved the utilisation of Rs 1.84 crore for development of rural roads in the four taluks of Doddaballapur, Hoskote, Nelamangala and Devanahalli coming under the Zilla Panchayat jurisdiction.

Drinking water

The meeting also resolved to immediately take up remedial measures to mitigate the drinking water shortage in summer by task forces headed by jurisdictional legislators.

A member, Tiruvaranga Narayanaswamy pointed out that grants had not been released for supplying drinking water through tankers in 62 villages in Hoskote taluk and the pending bills were mounting. The government had also not granted permission to sink new borewells.

Another member, S Hanumanthegowda said the zilla panchayat had sought Rs 10 crore grants for various drinking water schemes in January this year. However, there had been no response from the government, he charged.

Chief Executive Officer  B C Chandrashekar said the ZP had requested the office of the deputy commissioner to clear the bills submitted by gram panchayats.
