'Rajiv Jyothi Yatra' arrives 'morrow

‘Rajiv Jyothi Yatra’being taken out in connection with the death anniversary of former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi  would arrive here on May 14, said MLA and District Congress President H S Mahadevaprasad.

Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, he said the rally would resume its journey on  May 15 at 9 am and  reach Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu on May 21.

The party has planned ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ against rampant the corrupt BJP government and a protest would also be held here by the month end.

Commenting on the membership drive, the MLA said it had not yielded desired results as they have been able to enroll 12,000 members as against the target of 25,000.

Ridiculing the recent protest against irregular water supply called by elected representatives of the ruling government at Gundlupet, he said the every woman who participated in the stir was given ` 200 and a plastic pot.

The drinking water problem is not being given enough importance at the budget meetings convened by TMC, he flayed.

MLA C Puttarangashetty, TP President Padma Chandru, M Ramachandra, B K Ravikumar and others were present.

Experts Committee

Mahadevaprasad also welcomed the experts committee decision on giving its nod to supply water to 303 villages in Chamarajanagar and Gundlupet taluks.

The committee presented a proposal of  ` 257 crore for the project.

According to this, water from the rivers would be supplied to the overhead tanks to the villages of both the taluks. Earlier, the draft of the project was prepared calculating 80 lts water for each person.

But, since the cost were more it was shelved and a new plan was prepared with 40 litres for each person.

The Cabinet had given its nod to ` 212 crore project, which supplies water to both the taluks,  he said.
