The two-day dancing extravaganza witnessed participants, from kids to adults, having a great time with equal enthusiasm. For most of them, this was their first dancing debut on stage. However, there was no sign of fear nor did they shy away from performing in front of a large audience.

Shiamak Davar’s Institute of Performing Arts had conducted a two-week workshop for dancing enthusiasts who want to learn the finer nuances of dance and their two-week’s experience ended with the grand ‘Summer Funk Show 2011’. Participants included tiny tots from the age of four dancing to popular hits like Munni Badnam Hui and Eeni Meeni Mini Mo, to the older lot grooving to songs like Ainvayi Ainvayi.

An interesting mix of styles ranging from hip-hop to rock and roll, kept the audience glued to their seats.

The powerful Afro-jazz performance to Jump had the crowd on their feet and Shiamak’s Indo-jazz movements provided an awesome visual treat.

The highlight of the evening was a performance by the Shiamak’s Victory Arts Foundation (VAF) in which trained students with special needs from Aashaniketan paid tribute to the Indian Cricket Team for winning the World Cup through their special performance.
They danced to De Ghumake sporting the team’s jersey.

Their energy outshone all other performances and brought the audience to tears.
One of the judges of the dance reality show, Dance India Dance — Doubles’ and principal dancer of Shiamak’s Academy, Master Marzi Pestonji was there to cheer the students.
“The students worked extremely hard and focused on technique. The energy was great and I had a great time interacting with the students. The speciality of Shiamak’s School is that it passes on that complete knowledge to its students and makes them true performers,” says Marzi.

“The SDIPA classes helped me a great extent in improving my dancing skills as well as groomed my overall personality. ‘Summer Funk Show’ is unique concept and gives people like me, who don’t have any other way of coming on stage, a chance to break out of routines and do what we love the most. Shiamak believes that people who have feet can dance. And ‘Summer Funk Show’ just proved that,” says Shashirekha, one of the
participants.
