'Follow the principles of Buddha, lead better life'

Speaking at the celebration of Buddha Poornima organised by the Mahabodhi Society in the city on Saturday, he said that absorbing lessons imparted by Buddha was important for progress in today’s world.

A symposium on Buddha’s teaching’s in today’s world’ was held to discuss the relevance of Buddha’s teachings.

“If one adopts the teachings of Buddha, then it improves the quality of life. It will also give direction to decide on what principle, a country should progress,” he said.

The former minister rued that fact theatBuddhism, despite its birth in India, had not seen the growth it deserved and the importance of Buddhism had not spread amongst the people.  “A lot of violence in the country today is happening in the name of religion. People should strive to overcome the strife and work towards building a peaceful society,” he advised.

Timeless

President of Mahabodhi Society Sangasena Mahatera said that Buddha’s teachings were timeless and people should demonstrate an interest in learning about it. 
Researcher Dr B K Sangasena Vardhana and DCP of City Armed Reserve (CAR) M Nanjundaswamy were also present at the event.
