Kayyara turns 97

Speaking after felicitating Kayyara Kinhanna Rai on his 97th birthday at his house ‘Kavitha kuteera’ at Peradala in Badiadka here on Monday, he said the state government should provide Rs one crore to the renovation of his house and protect his library.

The Kerala government had been attacking the Kannadigas who are minorities in Kasargod. Making Malayalam mandatory in Kannada medium schools should be flayed. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa should hold discussion with the Kerala Chief Minister in this regard. If the Kerala government fails to withdraw its order, then we will hold state-wide agitation, he added. “The condition of Kannadigas in the border  is in pathetic condition. A sum of Rs 10,000 crore should be reserved for the development of border areas in the budget every year,” he added.

Rai said “Kasargod belongs to Karnataka. The government had not been responding to our protests. Kerala government never considered our demands. Kasargod might become part of Karnataka in the future.”

“Kerala is not considering the plea of the Kannadigas to include for political gain. If people of the region make an attempt, then Kasargod will be part of Karnataka,” he said.

He added “there is political selfishness behind making Malayalam compulsory in Kannada medium schools in Kasargod.”
