5 of family killed in collision

Anand Gurubhimrao Parvatikar (51), his wife Anjana (48), mother Shobha (75), sisters Jayashree Jagannath Padasalgi (56) and Vijayalakshmi (55) are the dead.

Adopted daughter Preeti (7) and Rakesh Jeevan Kalal (35), driver of one of the MUVs have been hospitalised with grievous injuries, police said.

The accident occurred as a tyre of the MUV in which the victims were travelling burst, tossing the vehicle onto the other side of the road.

A vehicle coming in the opposite direction rammed into the MUV. Anand, an assistant manager at State Bank of Mysore, Bellary and his family were on their way to Karad in Maharashtra to meet his sister.
