3 pilgrims die in mishap

The dead are Veena (30) of Saligrama, her mother Lingamma (55) from Mysore, and Siddamma (75) from Mirle, who died at the K R Hospital in Mysore.

The accident took place when 10 women were heading from Saligrama of K R Nagar taluk to Nanjangud to offer pooja at the Nanjundeshwara temple. Police said that when the jeep was crossing the bridge across Lakshmanateertha river near Ramenahalli, a cyclist suddenly came in its path.

The driver swerved the jeep only to crash into the barricade, killing two women on the spot and severely injuring Yogesh, the cyclist. According to eye-witnesses, the bodies of two women were found near the canal. Uma, Puja, Radhamma, Meena, Vaani, Savithramma, Mamata and driver Manjunath sustained injuries.
