JOIN US'Supply seeds, fertilisers on time'
Addressing media persons during his visit to Hassan on Wednesday, he said the onset of monsoon is the most important period for the farmers. It is important that the government supply sufficient seeds and fertilisers for them to get a good yield and reap profits in future. The government should take steps to supply seeds and fertilisers at the right time and help the farmers. There is a shortage of 15,000 tonnes of fertiliser in Hassan district, but the government had been negligent over the issue, Revanna alleged.
Former prime minister Deve Gowda has written a letter to the chief of FACT organisation to supply three racks of fertilisers.
Out of this one rack has already arrived and the remaining two would be supplied by next Tuesday, he said. If he had not taken initiative over the issue, the farmers would have been severely affected by shortage of fertilisers, he said.
It is government’s responsibility to keep buffer stock of the fertilisers well in advance before the onset of monsoon. The negligence of the government has resulted in blackmarketing of fertilisers, he said.
When brought to his notice that the Deputy Commissioner had announced that there is sufficient supply of fertilisers, he brushed it off saying that he might have told on the information furnished by his subordinates. Moreover, he has taken charge only recently and does not have the complete picture.
Saplings
There is also a system of distributing saplings of mango, chikku, arecanut and coconut for the farmers under employment guarantee scheme. But the district administration has failed to take steps in this regard, he said. He demanded to distribute the saplings within June 20. He also expressed his displeasure over the disparities in distributing compensation to the families of jumbo attack. The government is showing step-motherly attitude to Hassan district, he alleged.
