Minister launches bicycle distribution

The programme is being launched with a main objective of attracting girl students to join school and also to continue the education.

In all, 39,048 cycles will be distributed to the students for the year 2010-11 and 2011-12 in the district. Out of this, 18,789 cycles are distributed to boys and 20,259 cycles to the girls.

Launching the programme for the year by handing over the bicycles to some students, he said cycles were not distributed in the year 2010-11. Hence, cycles will now be distributed to new admission to 8th standarad and students who have been promoted to 9th standard.

The project has been chalked out to encourage girl students to continue the education as there the rate of school drop out among girls were high after they complete 7th std.
The parents too should encourage girls to continue education and utilise the benefits available in government schools, he advised.

Deputy Commissioner Dr P C Jaffer, ZP CEO Jayaram, DDPI Gopal, Mysugar chairman Nagarajappa, ZP president Shivanna, CMC president Arunkumar, MLA Ashwathnarayana and others were present.
