Parties prepare for Banashankari bypoll

 The ruling BJP is leaving no stoneunturnedtowinthe seat. The JD(S) and Congress have
also taken the poll seriously. The Banashankari ward was without a corporator for five
monthsafter themurderof DiwanAlionJanuary 17, this year.

The ward is abuzz with rallies, sloganeering, electioneering and door-to-door campaigns.
Festoons, flags and pamphlets are to be found everywhere in the ward. The
by-election will see the people back in queues in front of the polling booths, after just over a year since the BBMP elections.

BJPheavyweightsfromBangaloreSoutharecanvassing for their candidate A HBasavaraju,
whohadlost thePalike election last year from Ganesh Mandir ward against L Govindaraju.

Bangalore South MP Ananth Kumar, Home Minister R Ashoka, MLAs from Bangalore
South and many BJP corporators are taking part in door-to-door campaigning. The JD(S) is hoping to romp  home riding on the sympathy wave, by fielding Mohammed Akbar, Diwan Ali’s brother as its candidate. Chamarajpet LA Zameer Ahmed Khan is personally overseeing the electioneering.

The Congress has fielded Ansar Pasha, instead of Mohammed Ayub, who had
lost the last election.

The candidates arespending less for thebypoll, with the parties having spent huge
amountsduringlast year’s election.

An important feature this time is that the candidates are focusing on door-to-door campaigning.
