The accused Surja Devi had killed her grand daughter after a fight with the girl's maternal grandfather Jogender. The accused has been arrested, police said.

The toddler Pooja went missing on June 20 and later her badly burnt body was found lying near her home.

Gurdip, father of the girl and a resident of Bajigar Thed basti in Lehranwali village, had filed a complaint with the police after the family failed to locate the little girl, who disappeared mysteriously from her parents bed while they were asleep.

As the body was found in the same locality, police suspected involvement of some family members in the crime.

During investigation the police found the behaviour of Surjo Devi suspicious.
When she was interrogated, Surjo Devi broke down and confessed to her crime.
Devi told the police that she killed Pooja by stuffing onion in her mouth and later burnt her body in the tandoor.

Devi said that she killed Pooja out of her unhappiness with deceased's maternal grandfather Jogender, who had visited their home a few days before the incident and had an quarrel with Devi over a family matter involving the matrimonial discord of Surja's daughter.

Surja's married daughter Manjeet Kaur is staying with her parents for past few months and he wanted her to return to her in-laws.

Delhi Youth Congress chief Sushil Sharma allegedly killed his wife Naina Sahni in July 1995 and later burnt her body in a tandoor of Baghiya restaurant in New Delhi.
