Yet another child marriage prevented

Daughter of Yamanappa Bajantri, Sangeetha was being forced to marry Ajit from Suttatti village in Raibag Taluk, on June 24.

Upon getting information, the committee members succeeded in stopping the marriage.

Gokak CDPO Vijaykumar met parents of both the bride and groom and warned them of consequences of encouraging child marriage. With Ajit already married, marrying Sangeetha would be illegal and they would have to face legal implications.

Gokak taluk tops the Belgaum district in child marriages and this year alone 30 marriages have been prevented. Rescued children are  at child care centres at Belgaum.
