Council for ban on high-rise malls

Spearheaded by Malleswaram MLA Dr Ashwath Narayan, whose constituency has been riddled with two massive constructions on either end, Mantri Square Mall and Brigade Gateway, the issue of banning any further construction of malls within the core City was voiced by corporators, cutting across partylines.

Deputy Mayor S Harish, who vacated his chair for a brief period to raise the issue of Mantri Developers encroachment, urged Mayor Sharadamma and Commissioner Siddaiah to lower the Floor-Area Ratio (FAR) which is considered while issuing Transfer of Development Rights (TDR).

Harish’s concern was echoed by most corporators who agreed that highrise structures were the prime reason for congestion in the City.
