In the major parts of the district farmers have not even commenced farming activities. Farmers in Chintamani, Bagepalli, Gudibande, Chikkaballapur taluk have not taken up goundnut seeds sowing activities.  And the activity cannot be undertaken as sowing season has also come to an end, as a result of which farmers have incurred heavy loss.

They have demanded the government to come to the rescue of the farmers by immediately declaring the district as drought-hit and  undertake drought relief measures.

KRV protest

Activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged a protest and blocked the road, urging the government to declare taluk as the drought-hit, in Bagepalli on Monday.

Vehicular traffic was hit due to the blocked, for more than one hour. The protesters shouted anti-government slogans.

President of the Vedike Chandrashekar said, none of the MLAS representing the district have spoken on the drought at the Assembly Session which concluded recently. People of Kolar and Chikkaballapur are facing hardship as it had not rained in these regions. It is lamentable that none of the public representatives have voiced their concern in the Assembly, he complained.

The region has not yet received rain, due to which farmers are forced to migrate. The region is also witnessing shortage of fodder for the animals. But the district administration has turned blind eye to this problem, the protesters alleged.
