The decision to approach the FBI, well-placed sources said, was taken after the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officials held meetings with the Mangalore IG and Karnataka DG&IGP in connection with the recent serial blasts in Mumbai on Sunday.

A wing of the FBI, it is said has agreed to help the Indian investigating agencies in the matter. They said the ATS personnel also had detailed discussions with Bipin Gopal Krishna and that a thorough investigation into kind of materials used to carry out such operations would be conducted.

“Knowledge about the sort of materials used will lead closer to the people behind the act, thereby, making it essential to investigate into this matter,” sources said, adding that FBI would help make the investigation more efficient.

Also, following the clues their team had gathered, the ATS, reports said, would look for probable connections in Mangalore. And the team, on Sunday met the Mangalore IG and held discussions.

The sources, however, could not reveal the actual topics that were discussed.
