Patel, Yechury elected to RS unopposed

Patel, the political secretary of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, has been elected from Gujarat and Yechury from West Bengal.

They were declared elected after the last date for withdrawal of candidature ended on July,15. TV artiste Smriti Irani and Dileep Pandey have also been elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat on BJP ticket. In West Bengal, the Trinmool Congress has won 4 seats and the Congress one. Debabrata Bndhopadhaya, Derek O’Brien (famous quizmaster), Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Srinjoy Bose(Trinmool Congress) , and  Pradip Bhattacharya (Congress) are among those who have been elected.

A William Rabi Bernard, Jaya TV anchor, has been elected on AIDMK ticket from Tamil Nadu.
In this biennial elections 12 seats of the Rajya Sabha are to be filled up. On 10 seats candidates have been elected unopposed, while in Goa and Maharashtra poll is scheduled on July 22 due to more than one candidate in the fray.
