Power failure hits water supply

Last Updated 18 July 2011, 19:04 IST

According to a BWSSB official all the 54 pumping stations stopped functioning for more than hour as a 440 KV line tripped. It took more than two hours for all the pumping stations to resume operation. As a result there was shortage of 80-100 MLD of water supply to the City.

The official said that all the pumping stations cannot be switched on simultaneously and this delays the supply to reservoirs. Each time there is  a power shut down, areas located in Bangalore East are the first to face water shortage, he added.

BWSSB’s call centre received more than 100 calls on Monday. Most of them were from HRBR Layout, HBR Layout, Cox Town, Fraser Town and surrounding areas.  Bangalore East, at the tail end in BWSSB supply system, was the worst affected place where there was absolutely no supply in Kodihalli, Miranda and Jeevan Bima Nagar areas on Monday.
