“The farmers should be paid 25 times of the circle rate for their lands and not only six times as has been provided in the draft,” Tikait said.
“The actual value of the land in the open market will still be much higher even if the farmers are paid six times the circle rate,” he said, speaking to Deccan Herald from Meerut. “If the compensation is 25 times the circle rate, it will be equal to the market rate,” he added. “Let the government allow the farmers to buy property of ministers, MPs and MLAs after paying them six times the circle rate...they will then realise the truth and amend the Bill', the farmer leader said. He said a delegation of the organisation would soon meet minister Jairam Ramesh and seek changes to reflect genuine demands of the farmers.
