Sonali Bendre wants sequel to 'Sarfarosh'

Last Updated 07 August 2011, 06:56 IST

Directed and written by John Matthew Matthan, 'Sarfarosh' dealt with a police officer's poise and determination to crush cross-border terrorism.

The film starred Aamir Khan as ACP Ajay Singh Rathod, Sonali as his love interest and veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah in a negative role.

"There should be a sequel to 'Sarfarosh'. It was a different film. John is a great man... and he should write a sequel and I am sure he will excel in it (sic)," Sonali told PTI in an interview.

Earlier, even Aamir had evinced interest in the second installment of the film. The actor had said, "In case of a sequel to 'Sarfarosh' one can show how the character of ACP Rathod gets a new case to solve. Though John is not writing the sequel but conceptually I don't mind. But next part should be different, new and something interesting."

The film did moderately well at the box office and was declared as an "above average" grosser.

"I would be happy to do 'Sarfarosh 2'. The script should be as good as the first one. I don't want to destroy the goodwill of the first one," Aamir had said.

Sonali, however, is not so keen to act in the sequel and is happy with her reality television stint.

"I have been receiving offers for both TV and films. If someone would ask me to choose between TV and films I would go for TV. I am content with it. Also, I have a family and a son to look after. A mother needs to be there with the child," the actress said.

"It is not like I am doing television as a stop gap as I am not doing films. Right now, I want to do only television and no films," she said.

Presently, Sonali is judging the third season of reality show 'India's Got Talent' along with veteran actor Dharmendra and Kirron Kher. She had judged the previous two seasons as well.

"The show is good and brings forward lot of different talents from across the country. I believe in this show. I like the concept. It is real and not scripted. And one does need guts to say no, it feels sad to say no... it is difficult," Sonali said.

Talking about her past experience about the dance show 'Kya Masti Kya Dhoom' which she had hosted almost ten years back, the actress said, "I did TV when I was at the peak of my film career. The show was amazing.

"It gave me more popularity as I was going into the audience's living rooms. I had a good time doing the show. People got to know the real me through TV. They all liked me. I received a lot of love and affection from the audience."
