Lake cleared of encroachment

Last Updated 10 August 2011, 19:11 IST

The drive began early morning when the anti-encroachment team of the lake division with the assistance of local police and the surveyors from revenue department razed to ground many houses that had come up in an area of one acre and 21 guntas on Dodda
Bommasandra Lake under Palike’s Byatarayanapura Zone.

Sources in the lake division said a compound wall, some multi-storey buildings and small hutments had come up, which were demolished.

However, the officers spared three buildings as people were still living there and the owners sought four days to vacate the place.

Land recovered

“The family members gave us in writing that they will vacate the place in four days. If they don’t stick to their words, we will mercilessly demolish the structures,” said a Palike officer.

The Palike officials claimed that they freed government land worth Rs 10 crore from encroachment.
