Congress legislators to meet on Aug 23

Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of a Congress workers meeting held at Nagashettihalli in Bangalore, he said the meeting will finalise its action plan to take on the State government against alleged lack of action to curb illegal mining, collapse of administrative machinery and development works coming to a standstill.

Siddaramaiah, who is also the CLP leader said, the meeting will also decide the party’s stand on attending legislature session. The party had boycotted the budget session of legislature to press for its demand for the resignation of Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah in the light of the Supreme Court’s “strictures” while quashing his order disqualifying 16 MLAs.

The Congress leader said Housing Minister V Somanna had no right to continue in office following the indictment of his family members by the Lokayukta in the report on illegal mining.

He urged Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to initiate action against the 700-odd officials indicted in the report on illegal mining and recover four times the losses incurred to the State exchequer due to their action, from them.

The party also held its Congress Nadige Janara Balige (Congress’ march towards the people) rally at various parts in the City. Union Corporate Affairs Minister Veerappa Moily and KPCC President G Parameshwara participated in one such rally in Yelahanka.
