HC pulls up police for not producing Krishna Bhat

A week after Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji assured to produce Bhat before the court, the police came empty handed on Thursday.

During the hearing, Bangalore South DCP Sonia Narang, who appeared before the court, submitted that they had inquired about the accused at his residence at Girinagar, his sons Parthasarathy, Vishwanath, daughter-in-law Rekha, daughter Tara Sundaresh and his drivers and close relatives, but were unable to trace him.

The officer further said that Bhat was present at Woodlands Hotel when the NBW was issued against him. “Later he went to Delhi and got admitted in Indraprastha Apollo Hospital on August 22 and was later discharged to get admitted in a Bangalore hospital, but he didn't.”

The counsel for the petitioner submitted that Bhat is suffering from various ailments and has been advised three weeks rest, which will be completed on August 27.

The Division Bench comprising Justice N Kumar and Justice Ravi Malimath said:  “When the NBW was issued, the accused was in Woodlands Hotel, which is just a stone’s throw away from the court and you failed to arrest him and produce him before the court.”

Directing to produce him in the Court on August 29, the Bench said: “He is an 82-year-old senior citizen and the court has respect for his age, but he can't show disrespect to the court orders, it will send wrong message.”
