4 die of suspected dengue

Hundreds of people have been affected by dengue, malaria and chikungunya in several villages of the taluks. Three people died of dengue at Muddapur village in Mudhol taluk alone.

It has now been confirmed that Bhagya Muttappa Bhajantri (12) of Muddapur succumbed to the disease on August 2. She died after unsuccessful treatment at the Dr Prabhakar Kore hospital in Belgaum.

Roopa (14) and Baby Jan (28) of the same village died, following high fever, suspected to be dengue. People in the village alleged that the personnel of the health department had not visited the village, following the deaths. They said that the Gram Panchayat authorities had not bothered to take steps towards curbing the mosquito menace in the village.

A 48-year-old Moti also died of a suspected case of dengue at Neerabudihal near Kerur in Badami taluk. District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr A B Chouwdhari told Deccan Herald that there were 17 confirmed cases of dengue in the district since January.

Twenty-seven more people are said to be suffering from the disease. Their blood samples have been sent for testing to the KLE Institute in Belgaum. He said a team of health officers visited Muddapur on Tuesday.
