The symbolic protest was staged in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s on Monday.

Speaking on behalf of the protestors, Association President C N Vishwanath complained that there has been huge discrimination between the wage scale of the PU teachers and the degree lecturers.

Though the issue has been brought to the notice of the government several times, no action has been taken so far. Therefore the teachers are forced to observe Black Day on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, he said.

He requested the government to eradicate discrimination in the VI Wage Board Commission, unlike the discrimination meted out in the IV and V Wage Board Commission. He also urged the district administration to extend Scheduled Tribe allowance to other parts of Kodagu district, which is at present limited to Madikeri.

Other demands of the Association included, promoting eligible PUC teachers as degree lecturers, cancelling the government order issued in relation to the withdrawal of ‘non-existent’ salary which was assured to the teachers who joined on contract basis, among others. The members of the Association submitted a memorandum to the DC.
