GJR kin, Sriramulu on CBI radar

Last Updated 08 September 2011, 18:08 IST

Sources in CBI told Deccan Herald that a parallel field team is keeping a close tab on former Revenue Minister G Karunakara Reddy, former Health Minister B Sriramulu and G Somashekara Reddy, among others.

Although the sources did not name the officials constituting this team, they said it even had officials from the Bangalore branch.

“Given that these people are also connected to the company, it is key to track their whereabouts and activities. Gathering evidence is never possible through a single channel or from fixed sources,” the sources said.

On the chances of either of these Reddys being arrested, the sources said: “There are leads about their involvement in the case, but we do not have anything substantial against them to make arrests now. This does not mean that they cannot be arrested. We can arrest them if we find enough evidence.”

CBI Joint Director, Hyderabad Zone, Lakshminarayana had told Deccan Herald on Wednesday that the team would not restrict its investigation to Andhra Pradesh (AP) as a lot of the beneficiaries of the illegal mining in AP, which the agency is probing, could be in Karnataka.

Following Janardhana’s arrest on Monday, a CBI team had grilled his wife almost until the next day trying to extract information that might help them find a channel through which the money made out of the illegal activity has gone, as also to establish connections with other members of the company, who are not directly named in the case.
