Speaking after inaugurating the sports meet, Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya opined that coastal belt of the state has failed to contribute much to the sports field.
Although it has covered major milestones in the field of education, the particular area has failed to produce talents in the sports arena. Students should take up sports that can help them to build their all round talent. Besides, parents and teachers should encourage students to take up sports, he added.
He said that State government is taking measures to promote sports in the district. The indoor stadium inaugurated by CM will offer plenty of opportunities to groom the sports talents.
Besides, a full fledged swimming pool with all necessary infrastructures will come up shortly. Plans have been chalked out to construct a sports hostel in the district, he added.
Earlier, national table tennis player Misbah Ahmed lit the sports lamp on the occasion.
