'Separate varsity for Ayurveda, nursing in State'

Minister for Medical Education S A Ramdas said that two separate universities will be set up in the state to deal with Ayurveda and Yogic Science and Nursing and Paramedical courses.

Speaking after handing over the degree certifcates to the students at  SDM Naturopathy and Yogic Science College at Ujire on Friday, he said a mobile unit with all the modes of medicine will be started at all the district headquarters. The mobile unit would be an attempt to create awareness on yoga and naturopathy. The mobile unit will be flagged off from Dharmasthala soon. 

The Minister said yoga and naturopathy are effective medicines. There is a need to carry out more research. The degree holders should take the challenges posed by other system of medicine, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade said that one should not have inferiority complex over naturopathy. The naturopathy treatment centres have already been started at 10 taluk headquarters in the State. Ten more such centres will be started soon, he added.

Prof S Prabhakar, SDM College Principal Dr B Yashovarma, College of Naturopathy and Yogic Science Principal Dr Prashanth Shetty and others were present.

Minister Ramdas felicitated Heggade for receiving Sir M V Award, on the occasion.
